On December 29th 2007 Adrian Hayes became only the 15th person to conquer the 3 pole challenge which includes climbing Mount Everest, and trekking to the North Pole and South Pole. Even more amazing is that Adrian is now in the Guiness Book of Records for completing the feat in the fastest ever time as it took him just 19 months. He chatted with the whole of Key Stage 2 showing us video clips and photographs from his time exploring, afterwards he stayed with Year 6 so that we could ask him questions for our biography writing.
We really enjoyed listening to his stories; he told us the time he was near the summit of Mount Everest and his oxygen mask failed. It had to be smashed with an ice axe in order to 'fix' it! He also told us how he travelled miles across the North Pole in the extremely cold conditions, and what it was like to spend christmas at the South Pole where the winds were so loud he could barely hold a conversation with people in his own tent!
Everyone who listened to him thought he was a fantastic person and inspired us all. We hope to see him again after his trip to Greenland.
